Reggie got his start in residential construction
in 1971. His knowledge of older homes was obtained by working for
a small construction company in Andover Massachusetts that remodeled
and restored houses that were built early in New England's history.
Upon moving to Virginia in 1977 Reggie worked for a builder who
built predominately, large custom homes, small commercial projects,
and churches in Washington DC metro area.
He owned and operated Marston contracting from
1979-1983, a construction company that specialized in new additions,
remodeling, restorations, framing and roofing of tract housing projects
for builders such as Ryan, NV Homes and Centex. Reggie has personally
been involved with the construction, design and management of over
7500 houses.
Reggie was a construction supervisor, field production manager,
specification writer and national construction trainer for one of
the nations largest residential builders and still conducts training
seminars for residential construction supervisors and subcontractors
in the metropolitan Washington DC area. Reggie has produced construction
training videos and manuals. In the mid 90's Reggie worked closely
with OSHA and the National Association of Homebuilders in the rewriting
and implementation of the Federal guidelines for fall protection
in residential and light commercial construction. He has also been
a part time instructor of construction training at Howard Community
College in Columbia Maryland.
During that same time frame, Reggie managed
to obtain a degree in broadcasting from Northeast School of Broadcasting
in Boston, Ma., took numerous architectural courses and attended
various specialty classes and seminars in the fields of communication,
and training methods at the University of Richmond. He is a graduate
of the Professional Home Inspectors Institute in Falls Church, VA.
Reggie has been a speaker at numerous VHDA
and FHA 1st time homebuyer seminars on the subject of home inspections.
He has also conducted numerous training courses on HUD's 203K rehabilitation
loan endorsement program for realtors, organizations, and investor
clubs in the Washington DC area. Reggie is presently a listed 203K
rehab consultant with the Department of Housing and Urban Development
and has successfully completed approximately 150, 203k rehabs.
Reggie has been interviewed by both local
and national TV news programs on construction issues and can also
be seen regularly on HGTV's "The
House Detective" series performing actual home inspections.
